Empower
E.D.G.E. begins with Empowerment. Empowerment is about building confidence and embracing individuality. It gives teens and young adults the tools they need to navigate social situations with authenticity and ease.
Develop
Developing essential social skills is key to forming meaningful connections. Through structured interventions, individuals refine their abilities to engage and communicate with others.
Grow
Growth is about fostering social development and expanding interpersonal skills. Teens and young adults gain the confidence to apply these skills in real-life situations.
Emerge
Emerge is about stepping into a world of opportunities with newfound confidence. It’s the moment when individuals fully embrace their social potential and thrive in every interaction.
When developing E.D.G.E., we shifted from finding a logo that simply fit my business to creating one that embodies my approach.
The EDGE logo tells a story. The first period symbolizes the isolation many express during their Meet & Greet—the sense that "this is just how it is," as if their story is already written.
As they enter the E.D.G.E. circle, the gray represents initial feelings of melancholy. However, participants soon discover the blue of hope and encouragement. The white stripe in the center symbolizes the crucial bridge between understanding social concepts and applying them in real-world scenarios. This process naturally leads to yellow optimism, fostering the emergence of authenticity, represented by green.
Ultimately, the logo culminates in an ellipsis, signifying the ongoing journey of building confidence and belonging, and reminding us that the story is far from over.
EDGE Social Skills Groups are both engaging and impactful, made possible by the EDGE Approach to social skills intervention.
EDGE Social Skills Groups are built on trust, creating a safe space where participants can make “social mistakes” without fear of judgment. Every participant shares the same understanding: “We’re all here working on something!”
What makes EDGE Social Skills Groups unique is the seamless blend of structured social intervention and real-world social interactions. We don’t just talk about social skills or simply socialize—we do both!
E.D.G.E. is setting a new standard for Social Skills Groups for Neurodivergent teens and young adults. It is personal, engaging, and, most importantly, effective!
Hi, I’m Micki Benoit, the founder of E.D.G.E. I’ve dedicated over 25 years of my career to working as a speech-language pathologist, with the past decade focused almost exclusively on supporting social skills development in individuals with autism. My journey has taken me through private practices, public schools, residential facilities, charter schools for teens with autism, and nonprofit organizations—all of which have shaped the work I do today.
Throughout my career, I’ve noticed a common thread: many individuals with (and without) autism, have an intellectual grasp of social skills concepts but struggle to apply that knowledge in real-world situations. This observation inspired me to create a structured (yet flexible) intervention approach for the unstructured (and essential) skill of socializing! I’ve named it the EDGE Approach, and I’m proud to provide it to you here in Knoxville.
I’m deeply passionate about my work and the incredible individuals I have the privilege of supporting. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me, E.D.G.E., and the amazing people who inspire me every day.
